| Abstract | New National Ambient Air Quality Standards for airborne particles smaller than 2.5 micrometers, called PM 2.5, were issued by the U.S. Evironmental Protection Agency (EPA) amidst scientific uncertainty and controversy. In response to a request from Congress, Research Priorities for Airborne Particulate Matter, the second of four books in a series, describes its plans for monitoring the progress of research. In addition, the research recommendations from the committee's first report are reviewed and updated, and two of the recommended research areas are substantially revised. |
