Abstract
Solvent Naphtha, light aromatic (C8-10) (CAS No. 64742-95-6) was evaluated for subchronic toxicity. The test substance was administered to rats (10/sex/group) by oral gavage at dose levels of 0, 500, 750, and 1,250 mg/kg/day, 7 days/week for 3 months. No treatment-related deaths were observed. Treated animals had excessive salivation and anogenital staining. There was a statistically significant decrease in body weight in males in all the treated groups, and significant increases in serum glutamic pyruvic transaminase in both sexes and of alkaline phosphatase in males in the high dose group as compared to controls. There were no effects on the eyes, food consumption, or hematology. A dose-related increase in liver, kidney, liver/body, and kidney/body weights was noted. The lowest dose in this study is a LOAEL for changed organ weights and decreased body weight.
