Contents Notes
This report presents the background to the selection of a shallow buried, low pressure sewer system to service 140 buildings in the community of Temagami in northern Ontario. The pressure sewer system was chosen from several conventional alternatives because of its lower capital cost, reasonable operating costs, proven reliability and ease of construction. Monitoring equipment was installed to record data on energy consumption, and related energy costs were calculated for heat traced pipes and individual grinder pumping units. The evaluation and monitoring program, carried out by James F. McLaren Ltd. in consultation with the Ontario Ministry of the Environment, demonstrated on a quantitative basis that a pressure sewer system is suitable for servicing a community located in rock terrain.
