Abstract |
Statistical analyses are performed on data from EPA Method 3 (Stack Gas Analysis for Carbon Dioxide, Excess Air and Dry Molecular Weight) and from the stack gas moisture fraction determination obtained in the collaborative testing of EPA Method 5 (Particulates). Using data from Method 5 tests at a Portland cement plant, a coal-fired power plant and a municipal incinerator, estimation is made of the precision that can be expected with the use of these methods. For Method 3, the precision of CO2 and O2 determination using an Orsat analyzer is investigated, as well as the effect of this on the dry molecular weight and excess air calculations. In addition, the effect of variability in CO2 and O2 determinations on correcting particulate determinations to a common base is studied. The precision of the determination of the moisture fraction of the stack gas by the formula in Method 5 is studied. Recommendations are made for the improvement of the precision of the Orsat method. |
