Abstract
The concept of managing the water quality within an area or State has many facets. Various items and subjects must be investigated. Certain factors aid the manager in his efforts to maintain water quality. This brief study is about one tool available to managers--economics. An indication of the effects of increasing salinity can be obtained by examining a portion of the main stem of the Missouri River. The determination of detrimental costs was done for municipalities and power plants on the Missouri River. The main stem of the Missouri River from Gavins Point to St. Louis only was considered.
