Abstract
The report describes the principal causes of water pollution at both active and abandoned mines and provides suggestions and recommendations for minimizing the effects of mining on water quality. Part 1 of the report discusses problems related to the exploration and development of a mineral deposit, the mining of the ore and control of mine drainage, the milling of ore, and the construction and operation of tailings ponds. The water pollution problems associated with abandoned mines are discussed in Part 2 and items relating to the construction of mine roads are given in Part 3.
