Acidic drainage from sulphide-rich mine wastes and mine openings is acknowledged to be a significant environmental issue for the mining industry. The Mine Environment Neutral Drainage (MEND) Program is developing technologies to reduce the liability and to confirm methods of preventing acidic drainage at new mines.
