Abstract |
This document presents the findings of an extensive study of the animal feed, breakfast cereal, and wheat starch segments of the grain milling industry by the Environmental Protection Agency for the purpose of developing effluent limitations guidelines and Federal standards of performance for the industry. Effluent limitations guidelines contained in this document set forth the degree of effluent reduction attainable through the application of the best practicable control technology currently available and the degree of effluent reduction attainable through the application of the best available technology economically achievable. Separate effluent limitations guidelines are described for the following subcategories of the grain milling point source category: animal feed manufacturing, hot cereal manufacturing, ready-to-eat cereal manufacturing, and wheat starch and gluten manufacturing. Treatment technologies are recommended for the two subcategories with allowable discharges: ready-to-eat cereal manufacturing and wheat starch and gluten manufacturing. The cost of achieving these limitations are described. Supportive data and rationale for development of the proposed effluent limitations guidelines and standards of performance are contained in this report. |
