Abstract
The purpose of this guide is to provide scientists, engineers, and environmental managers with a comprehensive, interpretive analysis of the current and relevant information (based on both lab and field data) related to Microbial Source Tracking (MST). Descriptions of the various MST approaches, data collection tools, data analysis procedures, method application, performance standards, and assumptions and limitations associated with the field of MST will be provided in different Chapters. The Chapters were written by a diverse group of professionals from academia and government agencies. Regional and state environmental professionals were also consulted during different stages of this particular effort. Many of the contributing authors are recognized leaders in MST and applied environmental microbiology. While the information herein presented is contemporary, it should be noted that MST is a very intense and dynamic field, and therefore, the reader is encouraged to consult the scientific literature frequently.
