Abstract |
Procedures for developing and applying an empirical procedure for relating microinventory data to annual TSP data is described herein. A microinventory is an inventory and orderly compilation of sources in the vicinity of a high volume sampler. Its purpose is to consolidate information on source emissions or activity rates, monitor siting, air quality data and land use characteristics into a consistent format and data base. The purpose of the microinventory is to assist in identifying the sources of particulate matter in close proximity to a monitoring site. Such information can subsequently be used to interpret observed differences in air quality at various monitoring sites. An empirical approach in which monitor siting characteristics and microinventory information are related to measured annual mean TSP concentrations using multiple regression analysis has been developed. The regression uses variables which consider the emissions and distances to both point and area sources and the effects of traffic and dust on nearby streets upon measured TSP concentrations. The purpose of this report is to describe: (1) the methodology used in compilation of a microinventory and (2) the development of uses of an empirical approach for relating observed annual TSP levels to microinventory and monitor siting information. |
