Abstract | The paper suggests a methodology for selecting and evaluating alternative cleaners to the halogenated solvents used in metal cleaning (chlorofluorocarbons, trichloroethylene, 1,1,1-trichloroethane, methylene chloride, and perchloroethylene). Various types of aqueous cleaners are described as are procedures for determining their cleaning efficiencies on specific soils. Pilot testing and scale up considerations are also outlined. |
