Abstract
A collection of papers representing some of the reports given at a Conference on the same subject held December 11 and 12 at Corvallis Oregon. The 10 papers are grouped under the headings, Aquatic Systems, Terrestrial Systems, Theoretic Studies, and Frameworks for Longterm Monitoring. The first three sessions include papers dealing with Puget Sound, upland game birds, reference watercourses, lichens as biomonitors, effects of a fungicide on soil communities, and mathematical methods of ordering data into meaningful groups. The last session contained a paper on EPA's Ecological Monitoring and Assessment Program, EMAP, and the US Geological Survey's River Basin Surveys (The Yakima River represents a pilot for these studies). Two of the papers served as focus papers on the subjects of Biomonitoring and Risk Assessment, respectively. Each of the two papers is followed by a transcript of the discussion which took place in a workshop on the same theme. The volume includes abstracts of papers not reproduced there in full.
