Abstract
To assist groups interested in inventorying air emissions of various potentially toxic substances, EPA is preparing a series of documents that compile available information on sources and emissions of these substances. The document deals specifically with medical waste incinerators (MWI). Because of the limited amounts of data available on medical waste incinerator emissions, and since the configurations of an incinerator may not be the same as those described here, the document is best used as a primer to inform air pollution personnel about (1) the types of medical waste incinerators, (2) the types of emission control systems used with medical-waste incinerators, and (3) available information indicating the potential for emissions to be released into the air from medical waste incinerators.
