Abstract
The purposes of this study were to identify the production methods, importation, exportation, use patterns, and exposure to man and the environment for selected alkyltin compounds from 1965 to 1974. For this study, only organotin compounds having alkyl groups with eight carbon atoms or less attached to the tin were considered. Data for the production methods included the specific process, raw materials, annual production quantities, major manufacturers, waste products, environmental management of process wastes, and other production data. Use patterns were identified and annual consumption data were compiled for each compound in the respective areas of utilization. Major consumers in each use area were identified. Various possible methods for the exposure of man and the environment to alkyltin compounds were discussed and evaluated. Future production quantities and areas of usage were estimated for the next 10 years.
