Abstract | 2-Chlorotoluene was tested for developmental toxicity in groups of 16 bred female New Zealand white rabbits receiving whole body exposure to nominal vapor concentrations of 0, 1.5, 4, and 10 mg/L for 6 hours/day on gestation days 6-28. At 10 mg/L, lacrimation, salivation, and ptosis was observed during initial exposures. At 4 and 10 mg/L, there was a significant dose-related reduction in food consumption during the treatment period, which resulted in retardation of mean weight gain between the onset of treatment and day 9 of gestation. The treatment had no significant effect on litter size, pre- and post implantation loss, litteror fetal weight, or incidence of skeletal anomalies and variants. |
