Abstract | Groups of 20 male Sprague-Dawley rats, 4 male New Zealand albino rabbits, and 2 male beagle dogs were exposed to nominal concentrations of 5 or 10 ppm diphenyl oxide (DPO) vapor for 7 hours/day, 5 days/week for a total of 20 exposures in 31 or 33 days and assessed for general toxicologic effects. An additional group of rats (10/sex) were exposed to 20 ppm DPO vapor under the same exposure regimen. No adverse effects were seen in animals exposed to 5 ppm DPO. Exposure to 10 ppm (and 20 ppm in rats) induced nasal and eye irritation in rats and rabbits, but not dogs. No systemic effects were noted at any exposure. |
