| Abstract |
Since the passage of the 1977 Amendments to the Clean Air Act, a great deal of information has been assembled about vehicle inspection and maintenance (I/M) programs. Laboratory studies, surveys, and investigations of operating I/M programs have been conducted to quantify the costs and benefits and to project the impact of these programs on air quality. This report compiles and summarizes the latest technical information available from these studies for the use of policy makers and planners. The facts and figures in this report have been gathered from the technical reports referenced at the end of the document. Interested readers are encouraged to obtain these reports for additional information. |
