Abstract
This Interim Record of Decision (ROD) addresses groundwater contamination at the El Monte Operable Unit (El Monte OU) located within the San Gabriel Valley Superfund Site Area 1 in Los Angeles County, California. The selected remedy is containment of groundwater contaminated with VOCs in the shallow and deep zones in the El Monte OU to prevent further migration of existing groundwater contamination. This remedy includes performance criteria that will require extraction and treatment of contaminated groundwater at certain locations along the downgradient edge of the contamination and will require continued monitoring and evaluation at other locations. Most likely, the treated groundwater will be discharged to Eaton Wash (more probably for shallow groundwater) or provided to local water purveyors (more probably for deep groundwater). Other discharge options may be evaluated. In addition, this remedy includes monitoring in the shallow and deep groundwater zones in the El Monte OU.
