Abstract |
The report presents development and successful demonstration of an environmental noise monitoring methodology. Readings from sound level meter were made every ten seconds and recorded on data sheets. Cassette tape recorder was turned on at five-minute intervals. Weather data were collected during each hour of monitoring. Data were compared to data obtained using more sophisticated equipment. Results of comparisons proved that methodology used was sufficient for purpose of community noise surveys to assist local planners. Noise measurements were made at seventeen sites. Consideration was given on site selection to noise sensitivity of land use proximity to known or potential noise sources and discreteness of land use areas. Conclusion was that Waco, Texas, metropolitan area is marginally quiet and recommended steps be taken by city planners to assure continuation of quiet. |
