Abstract
The Safe Drinking Water Act of 1974 provides a unique opportunity for the Federal Government to constructively add to the traditional and varied roles of state and local governments in providing safe drinking water for this Nation's public. This volume focuses on the present standards for coliform bacteria, coliform bacteria detection and control, compliance with the coliform standard, and alternative means of determining compliance, and lays the groundwork for future regulations development. It is anticipated that the discussions in this proceedings, in addition to the National Academy of Sciences Review, will provide the Environmental Protection Agency with new insights into the technical problems associated with the M.C.L.'s for coliform bacteria and help to establish a firm basis for their revision.
