Abstract
A limited set of laboratory test data on clay liner permeabilities was gathered from six sources to create a data bank suitable for a preliminary statistical analysis. The collected data were also used to survey the most commonly used permeameters and testing methods for clay liner permeabilities. The report briefly describes the methods used to collect and organize the data. The main body of the report discusses the findings from the analysis of the data. Consideration is given to the degree of variability found in replicated permeability tests, the question of sample equilibration with water and chemicals, and the effect of the magnitude of gradient on permeability. Permeability test results using flexible-wall and fixed-wall permeameters are compared. Consideration is also given to the effects of parameters of sample preparation. In addition, a discussion on statistical considerations in the design and analysis of permeability experiments is presented.
