Abstract
The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency's (EPA) Workshop on Challenges to Integrating Immunotoxicological and Microbial Risk Assessment for Susceptible Populations and Life Stages was held on February 12-13, 2007 at the Crystal City Marriott in Arlington, Virginia. This two-day workshop was sponsored by EPAs Risk Assessment Forum (RAF) and was organized by Versar, Inc. The EPA's RAF is exploring the common factors considered in addressing sensitive or susceptible populations for both toxicant and microbial risks. This question covers several disciplinary sciences, including immunotoxicology, microbiology, toxicology, and sciences relating to different life stages, such as pediatrics. The objectives of the workshop were to: (1) consider means of integrating the common factors into a risk assessment and (2) determine the next steps and research needs to attain this goal.
