Abstract
The Swope Oil Company site is located in an industrial complex in northern Pennsauken Township, Camden County, New Jersey. Swope Oil operated a chemical reclamation operation at this two-acre site from 1965 until December 1979. Operations included buying, selling, dealing in, manufacturing, and processing, chemicals, chemical compounds and paints. Products processed at the site included phosphate esters, hydraulic fluids, paints and varnishes, solvents, oils, plasticizers, and printing inks. Waste liquids and sludges from the Swope Oil operation were discharged to an excavated, unlined lagoon. Contaminated material was also ponded within a diked tank farm and in an exposed drum storage area. The Company, which ceased operation in December 1979, has declined to take any action at the site.
