Abstract |
Work conducted included a literature survey on the use of inorganic solids other than metal oxides for SO2 removal, a review of existing processes which fell within the definition of the study, and thermodynamic calculations designed to study the feasibility of reactions suggested for future study. The literature survey included the following: Assembling data on the kinetics and equilibrium of sorption of SO2 and SO3 on various sorbants; Surveying available data on the catalytic oxidation of SO2 to SO3 on inorganic solids other than dry metal oxides; Reviewing the chemistry and kinetics of reactions that might possibly be used to regenerate spent sorbents, and surveying the chemistry and kinetics of the thermal and/or catalytic conversion of regenerated gas streams to more useful sulfur-containing compounds; Studying analytical and laboratory methods used in SO2 removal investigations and processes.
