Abstract
In June, 1969, a survey was made of each of the 88 water supplies in the six-county Standard Metropolitan Statistical Area of Kansas City. Eighty of these are classified as community supplies and eight as special supplies. The major dependable sources of water serving the study area are the Missouri and Kansas Rivers and the 'shallow wells' in the alluvium of the flood plain of these two rivers. Extensive treatment facilities are necessary to produce safe and quality water for the consuming public. Also, it is essential that those in charge and the operators be trained and qualified. A survey of the system is reported. The survey included the collection of samples for bacteriological, chemical, radiological, and pesticide analyses.
