Prompted by complaints and public concern about the air pollution problem associated with jet-aircraft operations at John F. Kennedy International Airport, a study to evaluate the community air pollution problem attributable to aircraft operations was initiated. A 1-month study was conducted during September and October 1964 that included an odor survey, measurement of gaseous and particulate contaminants in the atmosphere, an emission inventory, and analyses of flight operations, meteorological conditions, and public complaint records.
