Abstract
Isopropanol (CAS No. 67-63-0) was tested in a one-generation reproduction study. The test substance was administered orally in the drinking water at 0, 0.5, 1.25, 2.0, and 2.5% to rats (10/sex/group). Males and females from each group were paired together for 15 days after the males had been treated for 70 days and the females for 21 days. All rats in the 1.25, 2.0, and 2.5% groups had decreased food and water consumption, and increased liver and kidney weights compared to controls. The animals in the two highest groups had reduced body weights compared to controls. All treated females showed signs of anemia. There was evidence of stress in females of the 2.5% group. There was no effect on fertility, but embryotoxicity was noted at the 2 highest dose levels.
