Abstract
This document presents the preliminary results of a range-finding inhalation test in rats with benzyl-triphenylphosphonium chloride (BTPPC). BTPPC was the subject of an B(e) report filed by Cincinnati Milacron Chemicals on July 18, 1979 (8EHQ-0779-0296) in which acute toxicity and irritation was observed as the result of oral and ocular exposures. Du Pont purchases BTPPC and decided to conduct a subchronic inhalation study to determine the inhalation toxicity of this material. The initial test is a range-finding study known as an ALC (Approximate Lethal Concentration) test. In this test, groups of 6 male rats are exposed by inhalation to atmospheres containing various respirable concentrations of BIPPC for single 4-hour periods. The results of this initial test will be used to determine exposure levels in a subchronic repeated exposure inhalation study.
