| Abstract |
In revising effluent limitations guidelines, standards of performance for new sources, and pretreatment standards for the steam electric power generating industry, separate consideration has been given to heat and to chemical pollutants. In the regulation, only nonthermal-related pollutants were considered. The review of effluent guidelines focused primarily on the 126 priority pollutants, although other pollutants were also considered. In general, very few of the organics in the list of 126 priority pollutants were detected in quantifiable amounts. Inorganic priority pollutants, however, are found in most waste streams. The review also disclosed that the chlorine (a non-conventional pollutant) limitations in the existing guidelines are not sufficiently stringent. |
