Abstract
Among several proposed amendments to the Illinois Pollution Control Board Water Pollution Regulations (Chapter 3) requested by the Illinois Institute for Environmental Quality on November 23, 1976 (PCBR76-21), is a proposal to delete the current dissolved iron effluent standard of 0.5 mg/l from Rule 408(a) (5). The recommendation was proposed by the Illinois Effluent Standards Advisory Group (IESAG) in the document Evaluation of Effluent Regulations of the State of Illinois (12). This study addresses the extent to which point sources contribute to total and dissolved iron in Illinois waters, and reviews the environmental concerns of excessive concentrations of dissolved and total iron.
