Abstract
An iron foundry in Hoopeston, Illinois, county of Vermilion, formerly owned by Deere & Company and now owned by the Vermilion Iron Corporation, emits particulate matter at a rate in excess of current Illinois air pollution regulations. Deere has proposed the regulatory amendment R76-5 which, if adopted, would permit the Vermilion foundry, and presumably only the Vermilion foundry, to continue emitting at present rates. This study provides quantitative estimates of closing the foundry and provides cost and benefit estimates of reducing air furnance emissions via installing the necessary pollution abatement equipment.
