Abstract
This test protocol was developed to evaluate the technical and environmental consequences of burning flammable liquid wastes as a supplemental fuel in a dry process cement kiln. Primary objectives were to determine the kiln destruction and removal efficiency (DRE) of the principle organic hazardous constituents (POHCs) in the liquid waste, to evaluate the impact of burning the waste upon atmospheric emissions and waste kiln dust with special emphasis on trace metals and chlorine, and to observe the impact on the quality of the cement clinker produced. This protocol presents the experimental approach and the sampling, analytical, and quality assurance procedures required to achieve these objectives.
