Abstract
1,2-Diphenylhydrazine is a probable human carcinogen, classified as weight-of-evidence Group B1 under the EPA Guidelines for Carcinogen Risk Assessment. Evidence on potential carcinogenicity from animal studies is 'Sufficient', and although there are 'No Data' from human studies on 1,2-diphenylhydrazine, IARC reports that benzidine (a known human carcinogen) 'may be produced from 1,2-diphenylhydrazine by acidity in the stomach'. The potency factor (F) for 1,2-diphenylhydrazine is estimated to be 4.31 (mg/kg/day)-1, placing it in potency group 2 according to the CAG's methodology for evaluating potential carcinogens. Combining the weight-of-evidence group and the potency group, 1,2-diphenylhydrazine is assigned a 'MEDIUM' hazard ranking.
