| Abstract |
A Planned Maintenance Management System (PMMS) has been developed and successfully demonstrated at the 18-MGD Lower Potomac Plant of Fairfax County, VA., establishing a model maintenance management program for wastewater treatment plants throughout the United States. This PMMS provides for the specific maintenance needs of each item of plant equipment and reduces the maintenance of complex equipment to simple procedures. For each procedure the PMMS details the methods, materials, tools and personnel required; schedules the task; and provides for data recording and feedback. The success of this PMMS during the 12-month demonstration phase was measured by a steady downward trend in the malfunction of mechanical equipment. Incipient failures were detected in many cases and corrective action was taken to avoid breakdowns. This report describes the PMMS in technical detail; discusses the installation of the PMMS, including acceptance by the mechanics and coordination with plant operations; and outlines the application of the PMMS to other wastewater systems. |
