Abstract
An introduction to water quality standards and a presentation of the use of these standards in the current planning program of the H-GAC, namely the Greater Houston Areawide Waste Treatment Management Plan pursuant to the Federal Water Pollution Control Act Amendments of 1972, Section 208. These standards were derived with the assistance of citizen input obtained during a series of four public workshops held in January 1977 in various parts of the 208 planning area. It is not the purpose of this report to set specific water quality standards, that decision being reserved for a later stage of the planning process when the 'cost and benefits' of attaining each of the various levels of water quality is known.
