Abstract
The report covers the general principles and mechanisms of absorption and excretion of all metals, but of heavy metals in particular. Information is included on accumulation and retention of toxic metals, with special emphasis on absorption, excretion, and biological half-times, particularly of cadmium, lead, and mercury. The report discusses the dose-effects and dose-response relationships of toxic metals, specifically cadmium, lead, and mercury. It contains information on critical organs, effects, and concentrations, as well as on models of retention and excretion and homeostatic mechanisms in general.
