Abstract
The decision document presents the selected remedial action for Ground Water Operable Unit at the Packaging Corporation of America site, in Filer City, Michigan. EPA has determined that conditions at the site pose no current or potential unacceptable risk to human health or the environment. While the Packaging Corporation of America site does appear to exhibit elevated levels of heavy metals and some organics, calculations of potential future risk indicate that the contamination does not appear to pose an unacceptable risk to human health or the environment. Accordingly, no remedial action for the ground water operable unit is necessary to ensure protection of human health and the environment. EPA will however, continue to monitor Manistee Lake and the contaminants in the groundwater until the contaminanted plume has fully discharged into the lake.
