The Northeast Hazardous Waste Project has a responsibility to provide a mechanism for the acquisition, tracking and dissemination of information among its member agencies. In order to facilitate the fulfillment of this responsibility, it has been recommended that the automated support to this process be upgraded to meet the current and future needs of the Project. In identifying the appropriate upgrade path the following current and future needs were considered: the ability to send and receive electronic messages between and among the member agencies; the ability to send and receive electronic documents between and among the member agencies; the ability to perform multiple criteria inquiries of a shared base of information through a controlled and secure environment; the ability to enter information into the shared information base through a controlled and secure environment; the ability to manage the textual format of the shared information base through a controlled and secure environment; the ability to manage the textual format of the shared information base in logical segments based upon member agency requirements; and the ability to share information with other regional hazardous waste enforcement and regulatory groups.
