Abstract
This decision document presents the selected remedy for the Site 12 Barracks Road landfill (Operable Unit (OU) Nos. III, IV and V) at the Naval Weapons Station Yorktown, Yorktown, Virginia (WPNSTA Yorktown). The selected remedy for OUs at Site 12 includes: OU III - Construction of a soil/clay (or clay equivalent) cover for contaminated soils i.e., lead greater than 400 milligrams per kilogram (mg/Kg) at Area A. Erosion control and long-term monitoring as required by the NCP will be conducted to ensure the effectiveness of the remedy; OU IV - No Action for Area B/C and Wood Debris Area soils; OU V - For Site 12 groundwater, and surface water and sediments of Ballard Creek, property use restrictions will be implemented and long-term monitoring will be conducted. Because of the restrictions on future land use associated with contaminated groundwater, the site groundwater will be monitored and evaluated at a minimum every five years as per the NCP.
