Abstract
The United Chrome Products (UCP) site is a former industrial hard chrome plating facility located in Corvallis, Oregon. UCP began electroplating operations in 1956. Between 1956 and 1975 an onsite dry well was used to dispose of floor drippings, washings, and product rinsate collected in a sump within the building. The liquids were reportedly neutralized with sodium hydroxide and/or soda ash prior to disposal. However, there is considerable chromium contamination in the soil beneath and around the building and in the upper and lower aquifers as a result of leaching from the dry well and plating tanks. Estimated capital cost for the selected remedial alternative is $1,580,000 and the annual O&M costs are approximately $261,000.
