Abstract
The Cooper Road site consists of a 100-square foot dumping area located in Voorhees Township, Camden County, New Jersey. In 1982 several dozen, one-to-two ounce, glass vials containing unknown liquids were discovered at the site. Some vials were broken, but most remained intact. Sampling of the vials by the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection (NJDEP) indicated the presence of benzene, ethylbenzene, xylene, naphthalene and other contaminants. NJDEP requested the owners of the property perform a complete and total removal of all vials. No response from the site owners followed. The site changed ownership in June 1983, and upon request by NJDEP, the new owners removed all vials and six inches of underlying soil. Subsequent sampling of soil and ground water indicate no contaminants present above normal background levels. EPA determined that no significant risk or threat to public health and the environment exists and therefore no further action will be taken at this site. There are no implementation issues or costs associated with this no action remedy.
