Abstract
The Kummer Sanitary Landfill occupies approximately 40 acres in the southern portion of Northern Township, Beltrami County, Minnesota. The site was operated as a solid waste facility from 1971 until October 1, 1984. However, the disposal of hazardous wastes was never documented at any time during operations. At present, the Kummer Sanitary Landfill appears to be the major source of volatile organic contamination found in private drinking water wells in the area. Selected remedial action includes provisions for an alternate water supply. These provisions consist of constructing two wells in a deep uncontaminated aquifer, a water tower and distribution system.
