| Abstract | The 74-acre Wauconda Sand and Grave l site includes 52 acres of perm itted and unpermitted landfill areas and is located in Lake County, I linois,north of the village of Wauc onda. From 1941 to mid 1978, the the site owner accepted primarily nnonhazardous municipal, redidential, commercial, and industrial wastes; there are, however, an estimated 30 ,000 cu yds of hazardous wastes ons ite. The landfill was closed in J uly 1978 and was subsequently cove red by a layer of clay and soil. |
