Abstract
The document describes the recommend approach for evaluating and remediating Superfund sites with PCB contamination. It should be used as aguide in the investigation and remedy selection process for PCB-contaminated Superfund sites. The guidance provides preliminary remediation goals for various media that may be contaminated and identifies other considerations important to ensuring protection of human health and the environment. In addition, potential applicable or relevant and appropriate requirements (ARARs) and 'to-be-considered' criteria pertinent to Superfund sites with PCB contamination and their integration into the RI/FS and remedy selection process are summarized. The guidance also describes how to develop remedial alternatives for PCB contaminated materials that are consistent with Superfund program expectations and ARARs. To identify the areas for which a response action should be considered, starting point concentrations (preliminary cleanup goals) for each media are identified.
