Abstract
The article is based on the report by the Hazardous Waste Task Force of the AICHE. The report was prepared to assist the federal, state, and local governments to develop cohesive legislation and regulations for the management of hazardous wastes and related issues. Several topics are discussed in more detail: the need for long-term planning, regulatory flexibility, joint waste management research, how to avoid over-regulation, encouraging development of new treatment technology, evaluation alternate means of disposal.
