Abstract
This report examines the probability of significant releases of geothermal brine to the surface environment through unplanned or accidental events. It then evaluates the containment measures that may be used to prevent environmental damage. The results indicate that major spills are likely to be very rare and that simple warning systems and diked containment areas should provide adequate protection.
