Abstract
Hexamethyldisiloxane was tested for its ability to cause chromosomal damage in bone marrow cells in rats. Sprague-Dawley rats were injected intraperitoneally with 1030, 515 and 255 mg/kg of hexamethyldisiloxane. Doses higher than 1030 were not tested since some lethality was observed at 1825 mg/kg. Animals were sacrificed at 6, 24, or 48 hours after injection; cells were removed, processed and examined for chromosomal breaks and/or aberrations. There was no evidence in this study that hexamethyldisiloxane caused chromosomal damage.
