Abstract |
This study was designed to evaluate the feasibility of hydraulically transporting ground household refuse through straight lengths of existing sewer lines and treating the sewage containing ground refuse at the treatment plant. The objectives were to determine the maximum solid contents and average particle size of ground refuse that can be transported through existing sewers without altering their grades and to establish the feasibility of treating domestic sewage containing ground refuse by conducting a laboratory analysis of the sewage-refuse slurry. The results show the concept appears to be technically feasible. Additional work needs to be done before implementation and further research areas are suggested. |
