"Last year, the Cutting Edge Speaker series and RTP Management Council celebrated Earth Day by focusing on North Carolina's exemplary state parks system. This year, we are going to continue that focus, as we welcome nationally renowned ‘Steward of North Carolina's Outdoors,’ Tom Earnhardt. -- In his visually rich presentation, ‘Treasuring North Carolina's Biodiversity,’ Tom will connect us to the stunning biological, geological, and climatological diversity found in North Carolina and the neighboring states, from the boreal forests and deep gorges of the Southern Appalachians to the salt marshes and maritime forests of the Outer Banks. -- Tom is a graduate of Davidson College and UNC School of Law, pioneered environmental law in North Carolina, and was a law professor at NCCU for 20 years. He may be best known for his ‘other life,’ as an award-winning naturalist and conservationist. He has written or edited several books (including ‘Crossroads of the Natural World: Exploring North Carolina with Tom Earnhardt’), and has been a frequent contributor of articles and photographs to a number of outdoor magazines. He also has served on the boards of major state and national conservation organizations. For the past 14 years, he has written, hosted, and co-produced approximately 80 episodes of the Emmy-nominated UNC-TV series ‘Exploring North Carolina.’--Cutting Edge Speaker Series webpage.
