Abstract |
This report covers the environmental, operational, and economic aspects of thirteen (13) current and developing technologies as applied to the generation of electric power, steam generation, and the conversion of fossil energy into alternative foorms. The following technologies are addressed: (1) Conventional Boildr; (2) Diesel Engine; (3) Fluidized-Bed Combustion; (4) Combined Cycle Systems; (5) Low/Medium-Btu Gasification; (6) Chemically Active Fluid Bed; (7) Indirect Coal Liquefaction; (8) High-Btu Gasification; (9) Surface Shale Oil Processing; (10 In situ Shale Oil Processing; (11) Direct Coal Liquefaction; (12) Fuel Cells; and (13) Magnetohydrodynamic (MHD). The present status of each technology is discussed along with prospects for commercial implementation. |
